Coaching is a professional relationship with a client for the
purpose of facilitating change in self, lifestyle, relationships, work, health and
other areas. The framework of coaching
provides structure, support, guidance and accountability to the client in
pursuit of their goals. The focus for coaching is most often change in
one area of life or several areas. For a growing number of people, coaching is a
new and effective alternative to traditional employment and personal counselling.
The focus I bring to coaching is to help clients recognize,
strengthen and use their inner and outer resources when dealing with issues and
change. By inner resources I mean values, beliefs, experience, intelligence,
wisdom, spiritual life and personal qualities. By outer resources I mean
community agencies and services, family, friends and spiritual affiliations. By
increasing our connection to our inner resources, while seeking support from
outer resources, we can stand strong to face life’s changes and challenges.
Personal Coaching
Coaching takes place in person, on the phone and through email.
Individuals seek personal coaching for a variety of reasons including:
 |
The need for guidance and support through a career change,
due to unhappiness with their work environment, a desire for a change in
work direction and /or managing a layoff or termination. A coach assists
the client to assess their needs, set priorities and take actions that
create a successful transition. |
|

|
The desire to have a balance in their work and personal
life. A coach helps the client to look at all key areas in their life
including health and well-being, profession, finances, family,
relationships and other roles to develop and carry out a plan to best
increase their quality of life in each area. A good coach knows when to
refer a client to other appropriate professional services that will help
them reach their goals. |
|

|
The goal to change harmful health patterns and coping
strategies. A coach may have special expertise in a particular area of
health (e.g. smoking cessation) to help the client firmly establish
healthy living practices. |
|

|
The need for stress management
strategies, including work (overload / burn-out), family (caring for the
elderly) and the combined negative effects of too many demands in all
areas of life. |
|

|
The goal of becoming an entrepreneur and starting their
own business. Coaching assists with the very significant transition from
employed work to entrepreneurship. |
|

|
The desire for support and guidance through the transition
from working to retirement, which may be early retirement. |
|

|
Their desire to improve their relationships with significant others (partners,
family, friends and colleagues) and within themselves. |
